Hemp Voices: Gregory Wilson, HempWood

Gregory Wilson is founder and CEO of Murray, KY-based HempWood.

Bioconstruction is about Working with Nature Rather than Against it

My role is to guide the company’s vision, oversee operations, and drive innovation in sustainable building materials.

What excites me most is the potential to redefine what sustainable construction can look like. Hemp is incredibly versatile, fast-growing, and regenerative—it can absorb carbon, restore soils, and produce durable building materials. Bioconstruction, broadly, is about working with nature rather than against it, and that philosophy is at the heart of HempWood. Knowing that every project using hemp can help reduce the environmental footprint of construction keeps me inspired.

What was a win for your company in the past year? One of our biggest wins was our production growth, making HempWood more accessible to builders, architects, and homeowners. This year in fact, HempWood was recognized by Inc. as the fastest-growing manufacturer in Kentucky, all while we were able to keep the same crew.

It’s people who make the difference. Each year, I discover more about the world of sustainability and the companies driving it. It’s inspiring to see how we’re all in this together, and how the industry is developing and adapting to the ever-changing economic climate.

What bottlenecks have you observed in the industrial hemp industry/natural building industry and how would you solve them? One major bottleneck is the knowledge of hemp within the green building industry. Education is key; helping builders and architects understand hemp’s benefits and applications accelerates the adoption of HempWood and other hemp-based materials into modern construction.
