Learn to build your own home with the perfect combination of natural, non-toxic materials!

10-Day MgO and HEMP building Workshop Details

This 10-day MgO and HEMP building workshop teaches the simplest DYI method utilizing the best combination of natural, non-toxic materials. MgO and Hemp is the ideal building material because it is non-toxic and flexible/forgiving in it’s wide variety of uses. Hemp is the perfect aggregate for this cast-in-place wall system. It’s breathability and carbon sequestering qualities makes it healthy to build and reside in!

Location: Saoirse Learning Center, Blanco TX

From May 14th through May 24th  we will be sharing our passion for Magnesium Oxide and Hemp as building materials and teaching the simple cast-in-place building method for a well insulated and sustainable wall system. We start with the lumber structure that holds the forms, discuss utility installation and then we are ready to pack the walls! After the walls are done we fill the rafters with hemp and deck the roof. Finishing includes window and door installation, MgO/hemp flooring options and stuccoing the exterior/interior.

MgO cement is an ancient material used to build the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian Pyramids. When coupled with hemp it has a low carbon footprint, it will continue to sequester carbon even after the building is complete and it acts as a filter for the air that enters the building.  Our certified instructor will guide through all the steps of this workshop.

Evenings will include music around the campfire (feel free to bring your instruments), dancing, and connecting with like-minded, intriguing people from all across the country and (sometime) the world!

We will close this workshop at 15 students, so don’t wait to sign up!

Cost: $1249 for the 10-day workshop. On-site accommodations and meal plans are available through Saoirse Learning Center. You can find details below, and you will also receive a link after you sign up to make those arrangements.
