JOB SUMMARY:

A Texas Healthy Homes Craftsman should align with the mission statement of Texas Healthy

Homes by, first and foremost, exhibiting a willingness to learn historical and sustainable building

techniques. We consider every work day as training because we understand that the breadth and

depth of such knowledge is vast and in grave danger of becoming lost forever. A Texas Healthy

Homes Craftsman will not only learn through instruction but by observation and application. They

must be able to work as part of a team and have a willingness to ask for help whenever needed at

any step of the way.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

■ A THH Craftsman works alongside other crew members under the tutelage of a Master

executing the details of all tasks required in the construction of a healthy, sustainable home.

■ Assignments they will be asked to undertake over the course of a project include, but are

not limited to: preparatory site work/earthworks, low carbon-footprint grade-beam

foundations, erecting historic style timberframes, forming and installing cementaceous

cellulose building blocks, floating slab-on-grade low carbon footprint earth-based flooring,

window and door installation, applying historic lime plaster, tadelakt and clay finishes.

■ They will be responsible for utilizing a variety of tools, both manual and electric as well as

operating machinery according to skill level, experience and responsibility.

■ Maintains awareness of all aspects of jobsite safety and quality.

■ Works at times outdoors in heat and in cold weather.

■ All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

■ High School diploma or GED required

■ Basic math skills (equivalent to those needed at a GED level)

■ Regularly required to work physically, sometimes strenuously, for an entire shift, carry up to

50 lbs, and work outdoors in heat and in cold weather

■ Great attitude, trustworthy, dependable and dedicated to learning

■ Able to pass a background check

■ Stucco, concrete work,and diverse skills from the conventional building industry can also be

helpful in learning how to be a craftsperson, however they are not necessary in order to

have experience in because they are not the same. A THH Craftsperson must

reestablish their philosophy on how these can be applied in order to excel in this trade.

REASONING ABILITY:

This person should possess the ability to solve practical problems involving many variables but also

the willingness to request help when they are unsure and/or whenever it is needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The craftsman is regularly required to sit, kneel, squat and stand throughout a day, use hands to

handle, or feel; reach, grasp and carry with hands and arms and talk or hear and must occasionally

lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,

distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will be based in a custom home construction worksite or worksites, predominantly

outdoors or in non-climate-controlled spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually

moderate. Safety equipment is furnished. Crew members prepare and eat lunch together daily and

enjoy one-another’s company while working together.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Tools and equipment will be provided however a higher starting pay can be considered if a new hire

comes equipped with the following materials or a portion thereof:

  • Tool-belt

  • Tape Measurer

  • Hammer

  • Safety gear (goggles/gloves/masks)

  • Screw Gun

  • Construction Pencils

  • Utility Knife
